Newell relishing Mariners task

The former Luton boss helped the Mariners avoid relegation from the Football League last season and has since set about making a number of changes to the playing staff at Blundell Park. Midfielder Danny Boshell became the fourth player to commit his future to the club earlier this week, and with a number of players moving on, Newell is enjoying seeing his squad come together. "The close season gives us a chance to assess the squad and rebuild but it was never about clearing the decks completely," he told the Grimsby Telegraph. "The players who remain here now are ones I'm happy to have here." Newell has also repeated his desire to take loan midfielder Peter Sweeney back to Lincolnshire after he admitted his time with Leeds is coming to an end.
