Newell hoping for cup win boost

The Mariners boss has seen his side defeated in their last three League Two matches as they have slipped to third from bottom of the table. But the Liverpudlian celebrated a year in charge at Blundell Park with a victory at his former club Hartlepool in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday night and hopes Town can now build some momentum. "The league is the priority but winning a one-off game like that can transmit to the league as it gives you a boost," said Newell. "Hopefully we can build on that result at Hartlepool and start winning matches in the league again."
