Newell hails goal-hero Proudlock

Proudlock set the Mariners on their way just before half-time, but the visitors equalised through Dany N-Guessan's penalty. Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro put the hosts back in front before Proudlock added two further goals to complete his treble, with Akpro scoring his second to seal his side's first win in 10 matches. "We know Proudlock has got goals in him but we don't judge strikers on goals alone," said Newell. "It's all about work-rate and making things happen for other people. But when he is on his game he is as good as anybody in this division. Newell insisted he would not read too much into the result, despite the win moving his side out of the League Two drop zone. He added: "We won't be getting carried away but it's great for the supporters to beat your local rivals 5-1."
