New low for crestfallen Newell
A first-half brace from Calvin Zola helped inspire Alex to their first win in 12 games, while further goals from Billy Jones and Byron Moore ensured the Mariners wait for a first point goes on.
"It's the worst since I have been here and possibly the worst I have witnessed in my managerial career," Newell said. "Where do you start? I don't think we created a chance. We did not have a serious effort on goal. It was just shocking, I cannot defend it. I am responsible for it and I take full responsibility.
"You can talk about individual incidents all day, the performance as a whole just wasn't acceptable."
