Mariners ponder Conlon appeal

31 August 2009 17:22
Conlon, along with fellow striker Adam Proudlock, was sent off for an act of alleged violent conduct towards the end of the Mariners' 2-1 loss on Saturday. Although no appeal is planned regarding Proudlock, manager Mike Newell could challenge Conlon's dismissal in an attempt to ease the club's striker shortage. Both players face the prospect of a three-match suspension and Grimsby are already without injured forwards Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro, Adrian Forbes, Nathan Jarman, Nick Hegarty and Peter Bore. With the transfer window closing at 5pm on Tuesday - the same time as the appeal deadline - Newell is fast running out of attacking options ahead of Saturday's trip to Port Vale.
