The 20-year-old left-back enjoyed a successful loan spell with the club at the end of the recent League Two campaign, making 20 appearances as the Mariners successfully battled against relegation. And having been told that he has no future at his parent club, Widdowson has now signed a three-year deal at Blundell Park. "It's very pleasing to sign here permanently," he told Grimsby's official website. "I really enjoyed my time here on loan from January until the end of the season, so it's good to be here for the next few years. "I've been back to West Ham for the past couple of weeks and they aren't going to offer me a contract there. Having been to Grimsby I know the place, I know the club and it wasn't a difficult decision. "There was a couple of other clubs that were interested in me but they couldn't really guarantee me regular football like I was getting at Grimsby."
