The 29-year-old goalkeeper was surprisingly released from his contract at the Mariners despite being their reigning Player of the Year and making 37 appearances this season. "There was no clash at all and no divide in the dressing room," Barnes told the Grimsby Evening Telegraph. "All that talk is a load of rubbish and it hurts me that there are some people saying that I was a bad apple. "I am not a trouble-causer and while the manager obviously didn't rate me, there were never any wrong words between us." Barnes also revealed that he was set to join Shrewsbury on loan until Grimsby called the move off. "Shrewsbury wanted to take me on loan and pay a proportion of my wages but that was blocked by Grimsby, who wanted the full amount," he said.
