The 21-year-old midfielder ghosted in to head past on-loan goalkeeper Tommy Forecast in the 27th minute after Danny North had seen his strike disallowed for the hosts. Donnelly doubled the advantage three minutes into the second half before Barry Conlon claimed a late header for The Mariners, who then had the ex-Bradford man and sub Adam Proudlock sent-off. Grimsby dominated the opening stages and North fired Michael Leary's quick free-kick past Shots goalkeeper Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz in the 11th minute, only to be flagged offside. Aldershot took the lead in the 27th minute when Marvin Morgan found Louie Soares on the right and he crossed for the unmarked Donnelly to glance past Southampton loanee Forecast. He then beat Forecast at the second attempt to double Aldershot's advantage after the break. Conlon headed in with 10 minutes remaining but could not prevent Mike Newell's Mariners slipping to their fourth home defeat on the bounce as both Proudlock and Conlon were dimissed for sparking a melee in stoppage time.
