Akpa Akpro closing in on return

The Mariners' strike-force has been depleted by injury and suspension during the first month of the season. Akpa Akpro is one of five injured attacking players at the club along with Nathan Jarman (foot), Adrian Forbes (knee), Peter Bore (hamstring) and Nick Hegarty (ankle) while Barry Conlon and Adam Proudlock begin three-match suspensions against Port Vale on Saturday following their red cards in the home defeat to Aldershot. Akpa Akpro has missed the last three games with a thigh injury and will remain absent for the trip to Vale Park but physio Dave Moore told the Grimsby Telegraph: "Jean-Louis did some light running at the back end of last week. "He will gradually increase that this week and may be able to train after the Port Vale game."
