SPL basement side Gretna have formally entered administration and have been deducted ten points as a consequence.
The Black & Whites were left in dire financial straits after owner Brooks Mileson withdrew his support for the club, although they should be able to complete the season, their first-ever in the Scottish top-flight.
SPL spokesman Greig Mailer confirmed: "There have been daily discussions with the club over the last few days and we want to have an early meeting with administrators.
"One of the things that is a concern to us is that Gretna can fulfil their fixtures and we will also be looking at ways we can support a member club.
"There is no financial criteria to be a member of the SPL and no financial requirements. We require clubs to have a stadium which meets seating requirements, undersoil heating and a youth set-up.
"They applied to ground-share which was on the same basis as Inverness Caley Thistle and Aberdeen and we had no reason to believe that it wouldn't work."
