Gretna cash crisis worsens

Gretna cash crisis worsens

Gretna have received a temporary stay of execution, but the administrator of the cash-strapped club has warned that Saturday's match at Aberdeen could be postponed.

David Elliot, of administrators Wilson Field Ltd, has revealed that the club's existence remains perilous due to their dire financial position.

Earlier in the week, he claimed an immediate £30,000 was required to see the SPL's bottom club through to the end of the week.

Gretna's predicament has been worsened after owner Brooks Mileson, who used to service the club's debts on a weekly basis, withdrew his financial support after being struck down by illness.

"The position has not improved from yesterday. If anything it has deteriorated and I am not convinced we will be able to put a team out on Saturday," said Elliot.

"That would mean we are breach of league rules and would leave us open to be fined and face other penalties."
