As Greece central defender Avraam Papadopoulos departs Sunday for Germany to undergo surgery, a row has erupted between Greek champions Olympiakos and the Hellenic Football Federation over his injury in Friday's opener with Poland.
The club has accussed the federation's doctor of not taking his injury seriously and that Papadopoulos should have been replaced immediately and not after 16 minutes.
The 27-year-old star is expected to be out of action for at least six months with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
"Olympiakos declares that it will not tolerate in the future its players being placed at risk because of negligence or incompetence of those responsible. Once more it was shown that the medical staff of the national team is dangerous for the national players," Olympiakos said in a statement.
