Greece team plagued by injuries

Injuries are causing problems for Greece coach Fernando Santos as he prepares the team for Group G 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Friday and Slovakia on October 16.

The latest victim at Wednesday's training session was Panathinaikos midfielder Lazaros Christodoulopoulos who will miss both matches due to a swelled thigh.

Ironically, Santos had called up Christodoulopoulos to replace sidelined Schalke 04 defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos. To substitute Christodoulopoulos, Santos invited PAOK midfielder Giorgos Fotakis.

The second problem for Santos on Wednesday was Panathinaikos defender Loukas Vyntras who suffered a fractured left foot and will also miss both matches.

A third possible problem for Greece is a virus which sent Monaco defender Giorgos Tzavellas to the hospital for examination on Wednesday.

He had been called up by Santos earlier this week to replace Olympiakos defender Jose Holebas who was injured over the weekend in a league match.

Not taking any chances, Santos called up Wednesday 18-year-old PAOK defender Kostas Satafilidis from the national Under-19 team to train with the squad and will stay if Tzavellas is not ready.
