Charisteas began his career in Greece, before signing for Werder Bremen in 2002.
He went Dutch next, with spells at Ajax and Feyenord, before returning to Germany with Nuremberg in 2007, and then signing for Bayer Leverkusen in 2009.
But it's on the international stage that Charisteas has truly made his mark. His 23 goals for Greece include three in Euro 2004, with one being the winner in the final against Portugal.
The 30-year-old also scored three times in Greece's qualification for the 2010 World Cup.
