Gillingham look set to name Mark Stimson as their new manager after the former Grays Athletic boss resigned from his position at Stevenage Borough.
Stimson has been linked with the managerial vacancy at the Priestfield Stadium since last month's departure of Ronnie Jepson.
Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace told the Blue Square Premier side's official website: "Mark has resigned today and he's told us that he took legal advice before he made that decision.
"We don't know where he's going but he feels that this action is in the best interests of his future career and only history will show if he was right.
"I think it's been clear to everyone over the past few weeks that events outside the club have been the major contributor in his decision to resign, but we'll have to wait and see what happens now.
