Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has returned to one of his former clubs to hold discussions with Stevenage Borough goalkeeper Alan Julian.
The 25-year-old former Brentford shot-stopper, who has made more than 150 appearances for the Blue Square Premier side, is available on a free transfer.
Stimson told the Gills' official website: "We've had the opportunity to talk with Alan and bring him down to the club so that we can show him the ground.
"There are a couple of other league clubs interested and he's now going to go away and have a think about what we've offered.
"I'm quietly confident that we'll be able to add him to our squad and, with Derek Stille retiring, another goalkeeper would be good for competition."
Meanwhile, Danny Cullip has rejected a new contract offer and will be leaving the club.
