The 24-year-old has been away on international duty this week after returning from his loan spell at Peterborough but Stimson revealed last week the two parties are trying to strike a deal that will see the former skipper leave the club.

Crofts is well down the pecking order at Priestfield and is out of contract in the summer but Stimson is hoping to agree a deal that will see him leave now and free up wages for possible loan signings.

Stimson said: "When he comes back we'll sit down and decide what is best for him and where he's going to go and what he's going to do.

"He has someone looking after him and they're probably giving him the advice they think is best and we can't unfortunately change that."
