The victory has given Gillingham a five-point buffer over the drop zone and Stimson was relieved the game survived the big freeze.
He said: "I turned up just before 10.00am and we had about 25 volunteers, most of them under 18, and full credit to them because they've worked their socks off.
"They've shovelled the snow, dug in and really made this game happen. Without them, this game wouldn't have gone ahead.
"It was a fantastic result and first-half performance where we scored three goals which probably are goal-of-the-season contenders."
