Stevenage 2-2 Gillingham: Report

01 February 2011 22:49
Harrison heads Borough to point Byron Harrison headers either side of half-time earned Stevenage a 1-1 draw against Gillingham in an entertaining clash. Adebayo Akinfenwa tried his luck early on, only to be thwarted by a smart save from Chris Day in the hosts' goal before the hosts broke the deadlock after 25 minutes when Harrison - returning to the side after being cup-tied on Saturday - headed home Lawrie Wilson's cross from six yards. Gillingham equalised deep into first-half stoppage-time, though, when Akinfenwa teed up Cody McDonald, who made no mistake with a well-struck shot. Only five minutes after the restart, the Gills went in front as Joe Martin fed Akinfenwa, and the striker smashed into the roof of the net. Harrison went close again on the hour as he saw a well-struck shot saved by Alan Julian, but the Stevenage man did level with 15 minutes to go, heading home clinically from Peter Winn's cross.
