Spiller boost for Gills

Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has extended Danny Spiller`s contract prior to his team's clash with Stevenage. Spiller`s previous deal was set to expire on New Year's Eve but the midfielder, signed in the summer, has now penned a new 18-month agreement that will see him stay at Priestfield until the end of next season. Losing the 29-year-old would only have added to the selection problems facing Hessenthaler, who has a clutch of players out injured. Jack Payne (ankle ligaments) and Chris Palmer (knee) are definitely missing, while striker Dennis Oli is sidelined due to an ankle injury. Tony Sinclair (foot) will play no part and he could be joined by recent signing Joe Martin. Martin was forced off during the win over Port Vale on Tuesday and is a doubt after receiving six stitches to a head wound.
