Southend boss Paul Sturrock waits on the fitness of Kane Ferdinand, who has missed three games with an ankle blow.Sturrock must also assess his son Blair, who sat out Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Morecambe through illness.

Gillingham defenders Josh Gowling and Simon King (both ankle injuries) face late tests if they are to return.

Danny Spiller (broken finger) is still sidelined, while midfielder Chris Palmer (knee) is closing in on a return after being sidelined since November.

Midfielders Luke Rooney and Joe Miller are pushing for starts but striker Dennis Oli looks set to be on the bench again due to the form of Cody McDonald and Adebayo Akinfenwa.

Southend's French defender Bilel Mohsni still faces around three weeks on the sidelines with ankle ligament damage.

But winger Ryan Hall should again play in this clash of ninth v seventh, despite being on bail following his conviction for a charge of affray.
