Gillingham have re-signed midfielder Nicky Southall for a second time, with the veteran having agreed to a third spell at Priestfield.

The 35-year-old has ended a stint with League One promotion hopefuls to sign a two-and-a-half year deal with the Gills, having rejected fresh terms offered by Forest.

Gills boss Ronnie Jepson told the club's official website: "Forest offered him an extension to his current deal, so it's been quite difficult getting him here, but eventually we got him.

"He'll be a great addition to the squad. He realises where we are at this moment in time, but he knows things will improve and he's one of those boys who can help us improve.

"He will add competition and experience and he has a winning mentality, which is very important for me."
