Sodje opts for mask

Gillingham defender Efe Sodje will wear a protective mask rather than have an operation on the fractured eye socket he suffered during last month's defeat to Yeovil Town.

The 35-year-old former Crewe Alexandra and Huddersfield Town star has been sidelined since the 2-1 loss and is not expected to return to action until the new year.

Gills boss Mark Stimson told the club's official website: "Efe's having a mask made for him and has decided not to have the operation due to the risks involved.

"Even though he'll have a protective mask, I don't believe he'll feature during the festive period."
