Palmer sympathy for fans

Gillingham midfielder Chris Palmer admits he is as disappointed as the club's fans after losing 5-4 to Bury at the weekend. The Gills netted four goals in the second half at Gigg Lane, but were left rueing inept defending as they fell to defeat. Palmer scored one of the goals of the afternoon but admitted he would have swapped the 66th-minute effort for three points. "It fell nicely to me and I just hit it," he told the Kent Messenger. "But it doesn't mean anything. I would have taken not to score and for us to win 1-0. "We're as disappointed as the fans are. We are fully committed to what we want to do and if we don't do it then we have to hold our hands up. "Even though we scored four goals, defensively we were nowhere near good enough."
