Nutter denies Shots

John Nutter came back to haunt his former club after his late free-kick earned Gillingham a 1-1 draw against Aldershot at the Recreation Ground. Danny Hylton looked to have given the Shots all three points when he calmly slotted home in the 77th minute but Nutter had other ideas, curling home expertly from the edge of the area five minutes later. In a game of few chances it was the Shots who dominated for long spells but with only 15 goals at home all season they lacked confidence in the final third, Tim Sills wasting their best chance in the first half. The game caught fire in the final quarter however when John Halls released Hylton down the left and he kept his cool to cut back onto his right and side-foot home. The Shots could not hold out for the win, however, and former Shot Nutter struck to extend Gills' unbeaten run to eight league games and five away from home. Both sides had chances to win it as time expired, replacement Ben Harding firing narrowly over for the Shots before Cody McDonald struck a post in injury time for Gillingham.
