Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler has admitted defeat in his bid to bring Chris Whelpdale back to the club on-loan. Peterborough midfielder Whelpdale, 24, spent a month on loan at the Gills earlier in the season scoring three times in four appearances And Hessenthaler was eager to bring him in again to aid the Priestfield side's League Two promotion bid. However he told Kent Online: "I think they (Peterborough) want to keep him in their squad. They are running for promotion and they want to keep their squad together. "You can understand their reasons for that but it is a shame because he hasn't been playing for them and he would have come here and he would have played. "But Darren Ferguson (Peterborough manager) wants to keep him there and that's fine, we move on."
