Lowe seals five-goal thriller

Ryan Lowe's 73rd-minute winner saw Bury claim a thrilling 5-4 victory against Gillingham. The hosts dominated the first half and Andy Bishop claimed a 15th-minute opener after a poor back-pass by Josh Gowling, charging down Lance Cronin's kick before bundling the ball in. Bishop and Lowe both missed great chances before Gowling bundled over Bishop and Lowe side-footed home from the penalty spot. The visitors made a double substitution at the break and got one back two minutes after the restart as Adebayo Akinfenwa turned the ball in from a Chris Palmer corner. Bury restored their two-goal lead as Bishop poked a Lowe cross inside the near post. But two goals in two minutes saw Gills draw level as Akinfenwa headed home from a Palmer corner before laying off for Danny Spiller to hit a 20-yard drive past Cameron Belford. Efe Sodje then headed home from a Steven Schumacher free-kick before Gills equalised again through a Palmer volley. But Lowe settled an extraordinary contest, curling past Cronin after Gills had halted a Bishop break.
