Lawrence lift for Gills

Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler`s defence will be boosted by the return of Matt Lawrence for the trip to Oxford. The 36-year-old former Wycombe, Millwall and Fulham centre-half sat out the 3-1 defeat against Crewe as a precautionary measure after limping out of the 2-0 FA Cup first round defeat to Dover with a hamstring injury. However, he is likely to go straight back into the starting line-up after last week`s defensive performance. John Nutter will return from suspension and Danny Spiller will also return but youth team captain Callum Davies is banned. The 17-year-old was dismissed in the 28th minute of his debut last week for a professional foul on Clayton Donaldson. Simon King (ankle), Garry Richards (toe), Andy Barcham (ankle) and Curtis Weston (thigh) are all nearing fitness but are likely to be left out until after the reserve-team game with Wycombe on November 30. Mark Bentley, Dean Rance (both metatarsal), Jack Payne (foot) and Mark McCammon (Achilles) are all out.
