Hessenthaler praises Gills reaction

Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler was pleased with his side's response to last week's 7-4 defeat at Accrington, although he expected nothing less in the 2-1 victory over Stockport.Cody McDonald and Jack Payne gave the Gills a 2-0 first-half lead, and although County pulled a goal back with a late Anthony Pulis strike, they failed to offer a genuine threat."As a footballer, you should be able to bounce back," said Hessenthaler. "The team talk was pretty easy, you can talk as much as you want, but I told them the way to answer the critics is by performing once you cross that white line.""Last week was the kick up the backside we needed. After looking as solid as we did here, it's incredible to think we looked like schoolboys last week."They gave me everything, and if we perform like that consistently, we'll be a very good side in this division."We're disappointed not to have kept a clean sheet, and it made for a nervous ten minutes, but we won the game, and that was key - that we got a response."
