Gillingham have appointed Andy Hessenthaler as their manager for a second time.

The 44-year-old left Blue Square South outfit Dover Athletic earlier this week, fuelling speculation he was set to succeed Mark Stimson at Priestfield.

And the Kent club have confirmed the appointment of Hessenthaler as the man to try and guide them back into League One following their relegation on the final day of the season.

Mark Robson has been named as Hessenthaler's assistant manager just over a week after he left his role as first-team coach with the Gills.

Hessenthaler made over 300 appearances for Gillingham in his playing days before being named player-manager 10 years ago and during his previous four-year reign he guided them to their highest ever finish in the Football League.
