Hessenthaler: Performance deserved reward

Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler felt his side were desperately unlucky to lose 2-0 to Chesterfield. Deane Smalley bagged both goals as the Spireites stretched their lead at the League Two summit to six points and their recent unbeaten streak to seven games. Yet Hessenthaler said: "We cannot believe we have lost that game 2-0. I thought it was a fantastic performance from us. "We gave them two goals but we could and should have got something out of the game. In the first half we passed the ball around really well and I thought it was the best we have played this season. "But we needed that little bit of luck and their keeper was fantastic and it never quite happened for us. For their second goal people have said to me it was clearly offside but it is hard to tell from the video and there is nothing we can do about it."
