Hessenthaler lauds best performance

Manager Andy Hessenthaler lauded Gillingham's best performance of the season in the wake of their 3-1 victory over promotion-rivals Rotherham. Cody McDonald netted a first-half double either side of Jason Taylor's goal, before Dennis Oli secured the points for the Gills in the dying minutes. "That was as well as we have played all season," he said. "Our hand was forced somewhat but we changed the system and it seemed to work well. "We wanted to get Curtis (Weston) more on the ball at the tip of the diamond and I thought he was outstanding with his passing throughout. Cody's on fire, simple as that, and he has been for some time, but let's not forget Bayo (Akinfenwa) up front with him. "I thought Bayo was unplayable at times and I bet you their centre backs would say the same. Cody could have had three or four and a lot of that is down to Bayo's hard work. "He may not get the goals that Cody does but he was terrific - the only disappointment was conceding the goal like we did straight after going ahead. It's a shame but on the whole I thought our back four did well."
