Hessenthaler calls for Gills response

Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler urged his players to show a positive response to their 1-0 defeat at Wycombe. The Gills had been riding on the crest of a wave heading into the trip to Adams Park after five consecutive victories, but Dave Winfield's header consigned them to defeat. Hessenthaler said: "The only disappointing thing for us is that we work hard on set-pieces for and against and that's what has cost us. "They hit the bar and it dropped to their player who put it away then we go down the other end and hit the bar and it drops to their defender who clears it. "I've got to be honest and say we looked a bit tired, especially first half where we didn't get going, but I can't fault our boys' effort. We've had to really dig deep to turn things around and maybe this was one game too many for us. What we've got to do now is go out and try to win the next five games and we know we're capable of doing that. "I've said to the players that we've got to keep our heads up because Wycombe are one of the sides who probably will finish in the top three."
