Hess: I'll wield axe

Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler vowed to wield the axe after his side were dumped out of the FA Cup by an embarrassing 2-0 first-round defeat against non-league neighbours Dover. First-half goals from Adam Birchall and Luke I'Anson put paid to the Gills and Hessenthaler conceded: "Without a doubt Dover deserved it - they were the league side and we were the non-league side as far as I was concerned. "They were better than us from start to finish. We had no fire in our bellies and the players showed no real passion. "There needs to be a lot of soul-searching at this club and some serious conversations. There was no drive or commitment and Dover had that in spades. "There is a virus at this club and we have to get rid of it somehow. If that means putting everyone on the transfer list then so be it. The players need to look at themselves in the mirror and ask if they want to be here - I know I want to be but do they? "It is far too easy for fans to have a pop at the chairman but it is the players they should be having a go at."
