Hess hails travelling Gills

Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler dedicated the 2-1 win at Barnet to the "first-class" fans who piled into Underhill. The Gills ended a 35-match wait for an away win at the weekend, and promptly made it two in four days after on-loan Peterborough duo Chris Whelpdale and Charlie Lee overturned Kevin Gallen`s opener for the home side. Hessenthaler said: "It was a tremendous performance by the players, a great effort, you know we've pulled together over the last few weeks. "We've been hurting and you could see the effort, and also from the fans who were absolutely outstanding, they nearly filled the ground, they were first class. "Obviously we were disappointed to go down 1-0 after we had two or three good chances. We started slowly in the second half, I've got to say, but got the goal and went on from there. "Maybe a few weeks back we would have crumbled after going behind, but it shows there's a lot of belief in the dressing room. We've sat down and thought about things, worked very hard on the training ground and it's all coming to fruition."
