Boss Andy Hessenthaler described Gillingham`s 3-0 home victory over Port Vale as his side`s best performance of the season. Cody McDonald netted twice before strike partner Adebayo Akinfenwa also got on the scoresheet. "I am delighted. The players have got to take the credit for that," said Hessenthaler. "We were a bit apprehensive before the game, and I am sure Micky (Adams) was, because of the break but it was a tremendous performance. "They had quite a bit of the ball, I have got to say, but we have defended very resiliently and that was the most collective performance we have delivered this season. "They had the best defensive record in the league and we scored three goals against them so that's testament to the lads." Hessenthaler added: "We have had four wins in a row but we are not getting carried away. We have worked really hard since coming in for some criticism earlier in the season and we are looking bright. The chairman is getting a bit nervous about us getting closer to the top six and having to pay out bonuses!"
