Gillingham boss Ian Hendon struggled to hide his frustration after Torquay snatched a last-gasp draw at the Priestfield.
Kevin Nicholson smashed home a free-kick with the last kick of the game for the Gulls, who had Lee Mansell sent off for two late yellow cards.
Gillingham looked to have secured their fourth home win of the season when Cody McDonald volleyed in Danny Spiller's cross with 10 minutes remaining.
"It feels like a defeat to be honest," said Hendon. "We have given them a point and given two of our own away.
"We didn't play particularly well but we were a lot better in the second half.
"I suppose a draw is a fair result but we had it in our hands and it's a tough one to take. We had to work very hard to get our noses in front and it really should have stayed that way."
