Gills take point

Ian Hendon was satisfied with a point after Gillingham's goalless draw with Southend at Priestfield.Cody McDonald, Adebayo Akinfenwa and top scorer Chris Palmer all wasted good opportunities for Gills while Josh Simpson sent a shot over the crossbar for Southend.Gills assistant manager Hendon said: "It was a competitive game and I thought a draw was a fair result. We had a few last ditch tackles and clearances at one end, but then plenty of chances at the other."It's pleasing not to concede. I've got to give credit to the back four because Barry Corr is a difficult one to handle but I thought the lads dealt with him well."We want to win every game we play but there were a few draws elsewhere so it wasn't a bad result for us. I think if we hadn't matched Southend's work rate we would have come unstuck."Anyone can beat anyone in this league. First and foremost you've got to work hard and with the talented players we've got here there will always be opportunities for us to express ourselves, but the key to it is staying in the game and that was the case."
