Gills swoop for loan duo

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has continued to revamp his promotion-hunting side by snapping up Ipswich Town winger Jaime Peters and Arsenal full-back Rene Steer on loan.

However, midfielder Stuart Thurgood has parted company with the club after the Gills agreed to cancel the remainder of his contract.

Stimson said of his two captures: "Rene's a young player with tremendous pace. He's very comfortable on the ball as you'd expect from someone that's spent six years at Arsenal.

"Jaime has quick feet and is another player with terrific pace.

"Both lads have joined for a month initially and I hope they'll come into the squad and help us to maintain the momentum we've built up in recent weeks."
