Gillingham have pounced to sign Walsall midfielder Chris Palmer on a free transfer.
The 25-year-old makes the move to the newly-promoted League One rivals of the Saddlers, penning a two-year deal at deal at Priestfield.
Palmer turned down the chance of a contract extension at the Banks' Stadium, stunning manager Chris Hutchings who has a wafer-thin squad.
The versatile player made 48 appearances for Walsall last season and will provide competition for both wing-back positions as well as in more advanced roles.
"We've not got the biggest of squads so to have a player like that will be a major bonus next season," Gills manager Mark Stimson told Kent Online.
"He was involved in over 40 matches for Walsall last year and that experience at League One level will also be a significant asset to the side."
