Gillingham have stated their intentions for next season by snapping up the Barnet defender Simon King on a three-year deal.
The 24-year-old moves to the Priestfield Stadium for £200,000, which could rise by a further £50,000 depending on appearances.
"We think Simon will eventually play in the Premiership," Gills chairman Paul Scally told the club's official website.
"It's a great signing for the club and shows that we have the ambition to try and get promotion back to the Championship this season."
King scored seven goals in 171 appearances for the Bees.
