Gills win on road again

Gillingham came from behind to beat Barnet 2-1 thanks to goals from Peterborough loanees Chris Whelpdale and Charlie Lee. The Kent side secured their first victory on the road in 35 games against Oxford on Saturday and repeated the trick against fellow strugglers Barnet. Veteran striker Kevin Gallen gave Mark Stimson's men the lead against his former club but Whelpdale and Lee struck within six second-half minutes. The visitors had the better of the opening exchanges but it was Barnet who went ahead in the 31st minute as Mark Marshall's cross-cum-shot was poorly dealt with and Gallen stabbed home from close range. Gillingham drew level in the 59th minute when front man Adebayo Akinfenwa teed up Whelpdale to lash home past Jake Cole. And the Bees keeper was picking the ball out of the net again just moments later when midfielder Lee burst into space created by the Gills strikers before finishing superbly. Barnet piled on the pressure late on but Andy Hessenthaler's men held on for the three points.
