Gills suffer friendly setback

Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler`s plans to give returning members of his first-team squad some much-needed playing time have been scuppered by the weather after Tuesday`s friendly match with Colchester was again postponed. The encounter was a key part of the Gills' plans to aid the return to match fitness of Simon King, Garry Richards, Mark Bentley and Dean Rance. The quartet completed 90 minutes in a reserve-team match against the Glenn Hoddle Academy and the encounter against League One Colchester was intended to be another big step in their rehabilitation Young midfielder Jack Payne was also due to make his first appearance in two months for the League Two side.
