Gillingham manager Mark Stimson says he is surprised teenage winger Luke Rooney has not accepted the club's offer of an extended contract already."It's the modern-day footballer I suppose, they sometimes listen to people they shouldn't," Stimson told BBC Radio Kent. "We ask players to do things, if they take other advice it's their decision." Gills have offered the 18-year-old a new deal that would keep him at the club until 2013. Rooney forced his way into the Gills first-team squad and scored on his first start for the club at Southampton in early October, having already netted at home to Exeter on his League debut. "There are, possibly, too many agents and advisors involved with young players," Stimson added. "I think they should just get on with their football, play as many league games as they can, and if they're any good, they'll move on. Then you don't need an agent, it'll take care of itself."
