Gills boss reveals Windass talks

The 40-year-old was released by Hull on Tuesday and spoke to Gills boss Mark Stimson about a possible move to the Kent club. Newly-promoted Gillingham are looking to add firepower to their squad, but reports suggest Windass will join Darlington as a player-coach instead. Stimson feels a deal is now unlikely, but believes the fact he was even able to discuss a deal with someone who played in the Premier League last season shows how far the club has come. "I have spoken to Dean, but I don't think it's going to happen if I'm honest," Stimson told Kent on Sunday. "This time last year Dean Windass scored the winning goal to get Hull into the Premier League while we were getting relegated to League Two. "I think credit has got to go to the club that we can get on the phone and talk to these people now - and they are interested in talking to us. All across the board we are looking to improve next season and people of that calibre will help us do that."
