Gills to check on several

Gillingham manager Peter Taylor continues to monitor several players ahead of Friday night's visit of promotion-chasing Wolves.

Chris Whelpdale returned to action in last Sunday's 2-2 draw against Walsall after a spell on the sidelines but was feeling pain in his ankle late on.

He was due to be assessed ahead of the New Year's Day trip to Stevenage, which duly fell victim to a waterlogged pitch, and will now be checked over again - along with Danny Hollands (knee), Amine Linganzi and Myles Weston (both hamstring), who have missed out altogether of late.

Striker Danny Kedwell is not expected to feature having been scheduled to undergo a hernia operation on Thursday.

Goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has added to Wolves' injury woes.

Ikeme has been ruled out for four to six weeks with a fractured bone in his hand, forcing Kenny Jackett to recall Aaron McCarey from his loan spell at York to provide cover for Wayne Hennessey, who is now expected to start at Priestfield.

Wolves' 1-1 draw at Tranmere on New Year's Day proved a costly one as Ethan Ebanks-Landell also sustained a knee injury and is set to miss out at Gillingham, while fellow defender Richard Stearman was sent off and is now suspended.

Wanderers were already without Jack Price (knee), James Henry (groin), Matt Doherty (hamstring) and Liam McAlinden.
