Hoyte back in Gills frame

Gillingham will have defender Gavin Hoyte back from suspension for the visit of Walsall to Priestfield Stadium.

The 24-year-old Trinidad & Tobago international received a three-match ban after being shown a straight red card for a second-half challenge on Stevenage player Roarie Deacon in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

There was another boost for the Gills when captain Doug Loft returned from an Achilles injury to play for 73 minutes in Tuesday's 2-1 home win over Peterborough.

Fellow midfielder Josh Pritchard is pushing for a first start after again coming off the bench in midweek, but striker Danny Kedwell will be out for another three or four weeks after undergoing an operation on his knee.

Walsall boss Dean Smith will assess Adam Chambers (hamstring) and Tom Bradshaw (fatigue) after they missed the 4-0 defeat at Rochdale on Tuesday.

Sam Mantom is still out with a knee problem but is closing in on fitness while Ben Purkiss and Jordan Cook (ankle) remain out.

The Saddlers have won just once this season - a 3-1 victory over Preston on Saturday - and Smith believes their debrief after Rochdale has helped.

He said: "The right things were said on Wednesday and now it is a case of getting on the training ground and putting things right."
