Gills duo making good progress

Gillingham duo Chris Whelpdale and Amine Linganzi both stand a good chance of being available to face Walsall on Sunday.

Whelpdale has missed out of late with a foot injury while fellow midfielder Linganzi has struggled to overcome a troublesome hamstring problem.

However, the game comes too soon for Danny Hollands (knee) and Myles Weston (hamstring), while striker Danny Kedwell is again set to take his place on the bench if required for a possible late cameo as he awaits a hernia operation next week.

Boss Peter Taylor could well make changes for the Gills' second game in 72 hours, with the likes of Craig Fagan, Antonio German and Charlie Allen among those pushing for recalls.

Adam Chambers returns to the fold for Walsall's trip.

The midfielder was forced to miss the disappointing 1-0 Boxing Day defeat at Bristol City due to suspension but is back in contention to face the Gills.

Saddlers boss Dean Smith was left to reflect on a below-par performance at Ashton Gate and admits he is expecting a positive response as his side look to get back to winning ways at Priestfield.

The midlands outfit are not expected to report any new injury or suspension problems for the trip to Kent.
