Taylor takes charge

Gillingham start life after Martin Allen's sacking with the visit of Preston to Priestfield.

Peter Taylor, who led Gills for one promotion-winning season in 1999/2000, will be back in the dugout having been handed the reins on at least a short-term basis following Allen's dismissal in the aftermath of last weekend's 2-0 defeat at Shrewsbury.

Taylor has vowed he will not be looking to change too much against North End but he will have to assess both Myles Weston and Michael Harriman.

Forward Weston trained for the first time this week on Thursday having struggled with illness while right-back Harriman is touch and go as he looks to recover from the calf injury which ruled him out last Saturday.

Preston are again only without Jack King as they bid to recover from their semi-slump.

The midfielder is back in full training after suffering a broken foot earlier in the season, yet he is unlikely to make a return to action for another two weeks yet.

North End will have Will Hayhurst and Iain Hume available after both returned from international duty with the Republic of Ireland and Canada without any injuries.

Simon Grayson's side have now lost three games on the spin in all competitions after remaining unbeaten in their first nine Sky Bet League One games.
