Gills hopeful on Vincelot

Table-toppers Gillingham expect Romain Vincelot to be available for the visit of Fleetwood.

The midfielder has recovered from a head injury suffered following a collision with Rotherham's Jason Taylor during last weekend's 2-1 victory that saw him stretchered from the field after lengthy on-pitch treatment.

The Brighton loanee has trained as normal this week and is expected to keep his place in midfield, though he will be assessed ahead of kick-off as a precaution.

Chris Whelpdale is a doubt due to a groin strain and will face a fitness test ahead of the game, but Connor Essam is expected to be available after recovering from a thigh injury and should return to the bench.

Tom Flanagan is sidelined until the new year with a fractured metatarsal, by which time his loan deal from MK Dons will have ended.

Fleetwood manager Graham Alexander could welcome back defender Steve McNulty.

A calf injury kept the 29-year-old out of last weekend's goalless draw with Southend, but he could come back into contention after featuring in a reserve game in midweek.

Striker Jon Parkin (hamstring) remains a doubt, while midfielder Barry Ferguson (groin) faces a late fitness test after leaving the pitch during Saturday's game due to a knock.

Alexander told the club's official website: "It's a massive test but one that I'm really looking forward to.

"Gillingham are a fit team with a very experienced manager and are flying high. You have to test yourself against the best and we must be competitive to take them on.

"We need to have the right mentality and the lads must give all they've got. That's the base minimum that I will require from them."
